A person on the tracks near the Glen Head station was hit and killed by a train Wednesday, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said the person was hit shortly after 11 a.m., about a half-mile west of the Glen Head station, by a westbound train on the Oyster Bay branch.

The train left Oyster Bay at 10:28 a.m. and was due in Jamaica at 11:24 a.m., she said.

She said officials at the scene were unable to immediately determine whether the victim was a man or woman.

The train that hit the victim is being held, and an eastbound train, scheduled to leave Jamaica at 11:13 a.m., was canceled as police and rescue personnel work to clear the track, she said.

Bus service has been ordered for Oyster Bay branch stations.

Service was fully restored at about 1:15 p.m., the LIRR said.
