Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who fell into a trash compactor at his place of work Thursday evening, Nassau County police said.

Police responded to a call to aid a man who fell into the machinery at Arrow Linen Supply Co. in Garden City around 10:14 p.m., police said.

The employee, Michael Rutledge, 42 of Baldwin, was transported to a hospital, where a physician pronounced him dead, according to police.

Nassau police are investigating Rutledge’s death along with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the police department said.

A representative of Arrow Linen Supply declined to comment when reached by telephone Friday afternoon. The fourth-generation company, which also has a facility in Brooklyn, cleans and provides aprons, uniforms, napkins, bedding and other linens necessary across the restaurant, hospitality and other industries in New York and New Jersey, according to its website.
