A man trimming trees Monday at a Glen Cove home fell 50 feet when the truck bucket he was working in malfunctioned, police said.

Glen Cove police said the man was pruning trees in the rear of a home on Sherwood Road at about 10 a.m. when a hydraulic piston snapped, sending both the man and the bucket crashing to the ground.

A police spokesman said the man, who landed inside the bucket, had head injuries but was conscious. He was air-lifted to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, the spokesman said.

Police did not release the name of the injured man.

The spokesman had no other information on the man's injuries, but said he was working for Green Mansions Tree Co. in Syosset.

A phone call seeking comment was left with the company's answering service.
