Trio use lottery scam to rob Woodmere woman
Nassau County police are looking for three women who they say used a lottery scam to rob a young woman in Woodmere on Saturday.
At about 3 p.m., a woman approached a 21-year-old woman in Far Rockaway, Queens, and told her she would pay the young woman if she helped her cash a winning lottery ticket.
The victim agreed and was picked up, along with the suspect, by two additional women in an older-model dark green minivan with tinted windows, police said. They then went to the home of the victim, who picked up her identification and purse.
The women then drove to a CVS Pharmacy at 929 Broadway, in Woodmere, where they asked the victim to go inside and pick up a prescription, but insisted she leave her jewelry and purse in the van, police said.
When the victim refused, one woman pressed a sharp object against her neck. The victim then complied and left her jewelry, passport and cellphone with the suspects, who drove off in the van, officials said.
The victim was not injured, authorities said.
Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
