A Hempstead Town sand truck and a box truck collided Sunday morning in Oceanside, sending one of the drivers to a hospital, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 8:40 a.m. on Long Beach Road at West Windsor Parkway, Nassau police said.

The Oceanside Fire Department used heavy rescue equipment to free the box truck driver, who had multiple injuries, said fire department spokesman Ed Scharfberg.

The driver of the box truck, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital by Nassau County police ambulance for treatment. The sand-truck driver was evaluated at the scene, but refused to be taken to a hospital, Scharfberg said.

A spokesman for the Town of Hempstead did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday morning.

The crash also caused spills of oil and antifreeze, which the fire department cleaned up, Scharfberg said.
