Truck gets stuck on Northern State overpass, clogs traffic

An 18-wheeler loaded with bottled water was eastbound on the Northern State Parkway about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, state police said, when it struck the overpass at I.U. Willets Road in Old Westbury.
No one was injured in the crash, police said, but the truck was badly damaged, and traffic was delayed well into the evening rush hour while debris was cleared and cargo removed. The parkway is open.
The overpasses on the Long Island State parkways are relatively low, and commercial vehicles are prohibited from using those roadways, state police said.
