Two arrested in Massapequa car theft
Car thieves speeding in a Honda Accord they'd just stolen were arrested by a cop on Friday who spotted them barreling down Sunrise Highway in Massapequa - and found the keys to another stolen car in one of the suspect's pockets, Nassau County police said.
John Stennett, 20, and James Collins, 16, were arrested and charged with grand larceny and other felonies after the theft of the 1996 Honda in front of a Massapequa home at about 4 a.m., police said.
The cop caught Stennett, who was driving, and Collins about 50 minutes later, according police.
Questioned by the cop about who owned the car, the duo couldn't say; the department contacted the registered owner, who hadn't reported the car stolen but confirmed it was missing.
Police also said they found the keys to a stolen 1996 Toyota Camry, which had been reported stolen from Wantagh on Aug. 19. That car was recovered at the Bellmore train station.
Stennett, of 184 Prospect Place in Brentwood, and Collins, of 340 S. Main St. in Freeport, were to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
