Two arrested in Nassau hospital brawl
A police officer was hurt Friday in a struggle that ended with the arrests of a patient and an employee at the Nassau University Medical Center, Nassau police said.
Emergency room patient Warren Coffie, 27, of Lakeview, faces a charge of second-degree assault, while patient care assistant Tony McGee, 47, of Greenlawn, is charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Both are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead. Neither could not be reached for comment.
Coffie was violent and disruptive, according to the report, and a First Precinct officer arrived at about 12:50 a.m. Friday to help hospital safety officers struggling with him.
During the fight, McGee became "physically confrontational" with the police officer and tried to pull Coffie away from the officer, detectives said.
The officer, whose name was not released, suffered a "severe fracture" to his ankle and later went to surgery, police said.
There were no further details about the incident.
