Two charged in Fox Hollow fracas

The night turned bad when they got kicked out of Woodbury's elegant Fox Hollow catering hall early Saturday because, police said, they were causing a disturbance.

It got worse when she hit him in the face and he started choking her, and it went further downhill when she attacked the Nassau police officers who came to break up the fight and officers found a powdery white substance believed to be cocaine in his wallet, police said Saturday.

Those are some of the actions police said led to charges of assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest for Catherine LaPorte, 26, of Bay Shore; and obstruction of breathing, obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, harassment and possession of a controlled substance for Matthew J. Kane, 29, of Holtsville.

Kane was choking LaPorte and banging her head against the side of a building when police arrived at the country club around 1:30 a.m., authorities said. He pushed an officer when they ordered him to stop, and they responded with pepper spray.

Then, LaPorte attacked two officers, wrestling one to the ground and kicking another in the right knee.

Police said she kept on kicking in the back of a patrol car, breaking a window and causing "substantial damage to the door and frame."

Kane, whose face had been cut when Laporte hit him, was taken to North Shore Syosset Hospital for treatment, police said. LaPorte was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for evaluation. Both were released and were to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.

It was not clear what event Kane and LaPorte were attending. A Fox Hollow manager reached by phone declined to comment.
