Two cops injured during Freeport fight
Two police officers were injured during a fight outside the Freeport Yacht Club early this morning.
Officers responded to a large fight outside the Guy Lombardo Avenue club and found Reginald Thornton, 17, of Freeport and Jasper Parker, 17, of Hempstead, swinging two-by-eight-foot wooden barricades at other people involved in the brawl, police said.
Thornton continued swinging the barricade while officers attempted to make an arrest, police said. A Freeport police officer sustained leg injuries and a Nassau officer sustained a hand injury, police said.
The officers, who were not identified by police, were transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released, police said.
Police charged Thornton with two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree rioting, fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon and third-degree menacing. Parker was charged with first-degree rioting and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon, police said.
Thornton and Parker are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead today, police said.
