Two drivers who had to be extricated from their cars after their vehicles collided were taken to Winthrop University Hospital Thursday afternoon.

Nassau County Police and the Mineola Fire Department responded to a two-car crash at Willis Avenue and Linden Road at about 1 p.m. Both drivers were pinned inside their cars and had to be extricated by firefighters, said Brian Santosus, Mineola first assistant fire chief.

Santosus said both drivers were "heavy pinned" and responders needed significant effort to remove them.

It was not clear what caused the accident and the extent of the injuries sustained by the drivers was not available.
