Two early-morning shootings in Hempstead Village

Two men were shot in separate attacks early Saturday morning in Hempstead Village.

In one case, just before 5 a.m., a 24-year-old man was accosted and shot while walking on Wellington Street near Clinton Avenue. Three men came up to him and one of the men pointed a silver revolver at his chest, police said.

"When the victim pushed the gun down off his chest, he was shot in the left leg by the suspect," who ran off with the other two, headed east on Wellington Street, police said.

The second case took place shortly after 4 a.m., police said. The 36-year-old male victim was waiting for a cab outside Two Brothers Sports Bar, at 400B Fulton Ave., at 4:05 a.m. when a man came up to him, took a handgun from under his shirt and shot the victim in the right shoulder before running away.

Police news releases did not say whether the two shootings were related. But the releases, issued separately, contained descriptions of suspects and weapons that did not match each other.

The suspect in the 4:05 a.m. shooting was described as a Hispanic male, 5 foot 6, with a heavy build, wearing a red shirt, black shorts and red and black sneakers. He used a semiautomatic handgun. The victim in this shooting was taken by cab to a hospital.

The suspect in the 4:56 a.m. shooting used a silver handgun. The victim in this shooting was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Both victims were admitted for treatment of injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
