Two pedestrians robbed, attacked in Freeport

Two men who were walking on Church Street in Freeport early Saturday were beaten and robbed for their cellphones and wallets in separate incidents, Nassau County police reported.

A 60-year-old man was walking on Church Street around 12:30 a.m. when he was approached by four males who punched and kicked him before taking his cellphone, wallet and fleeing, police said.

The victim sustained nose, face and elbows injuries, but refused medical attention, police said.

Hours later, a 38-year-old man was also robbed for his cellphone and wallet while walking on Church Street near Merrick Road, authorities said.

Officers say two males on bicycles approached the victim about 3 a.m. when one of the suspects struck the man in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The attackers then repeatedly kicked the victim, police said.

The two suspects fled on bicycles south on Church Street. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention. Police are investigating whether the two robberies are related.
