Uniondale gas leak forces evacuation

A gas leak in Uniondale Monday forced the evacuation of a portion of Nostrand Avenue, Nassau police said. One person was treated at the scene for exposure to fumes.

Emergency units, including police and ambulances, responded to a call at 663 Nostrand Ave. shortly before 3 p.m., police said, and closed off a one-block area.

The problem was corrected, and the area was reopened shortly before 6 p.m., police said.
