Uniondale man arrested after breaking into North Bellmore Rite-Aid, police say
A Uniondale man was arrested after he broke into a North Bellmore pharmacy late Saturday night and tried hiding from responding Nassau police officers behind a pile of firewood, authorities said.
First Squad officers said they found and arrested Sergio Torres, 19, of 299 Locust Ave., after answering an alarm call at 11:30 p.m. at the Rite-Aid at 2815 Jerusalem Ave.
Detectives said when they arrived at the store, they saw Torres leaving the rear of the building, which had been pried open. Aviation and canine units were dispatched to the area to locate Torres, who was found hiding behind firewood.
Torres was charged with burglary, and arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead. He pleaded not guilty, according to court records, and will return to court Wednesday.
