A 33-year-old Uniondale man was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder in an April shooting outside a restaurant in Hempstead, Nassau County police said.

Julio C. Castaneda, of 537 Clarendon Rd., was arrested at 4:15 p.m. in Hempstead and charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Castaneda was arrested after a lengthy investigation into the shooting of a 40-year-old Uniondale man outside Las Gemelas restaurant on Main Street on April 29.

The shooting occurred at 2:30 a.m. Police said the victim was shot in the lower back -- and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The status of his recovery was not known.

It was not immediately clear what led police to arrest Castaneda. The circumstances surrounding the shooting also were not immediately clear.
