Uniondale man indicted in Yonkers killing

A Uniondale man has been indicted on charges that he drove the getaway car for two men who posed as deliverymen to enter a Yonkers family's apartment in April 2010 then fatally shot the woman who lived there and injured her husband and daughter.

English Thomas, 28, of 762 Northern Pky., Uniondale, pleaded not guilty in Westchester County Court on Wednesday to charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and other charges.

He is being held without bail. Thomas is not yet represented by a lawyer, a spokesman for Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said. He faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Thomas drove the getaway car for two men -- Charles Parsley, 26, and Kasaun White, 27, both of Rockville Centre -- after they killed Sandra Hackley-Cornielle, 36. Her husband, Rafael Cornielle, 31, and a daughter, 12, were also shot, police said. A 6-year-old daughter was unharmed.

Parsley and White are set to go to trial on second-degree murder charges Nov. 7. in Westchester.

Prosecutors, who gave no motive for the crime, said on April 21, 2010, Parsley and White rang the Cornielles' door at about 7:30 p.m. under the ruse of delivering a package. When Rafael Cornielle opened the apartment door, they shot him several times in the doorway, prosecutors said. Sandra Hackley-Cornielle was shot five times in the living room and died there, they said.

Her 12-year-old daughter was shot once in the leg, prosecutors said. The two men fled and witnesses saw them enter a dark-colored pickup truck with Thomas behind the wheel, prosecutors said.
