THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $27,232,372 budget for 2015-16, a 4.4 percent decrease from the current $28,485,443. The local tax levy would rise 1.58 percent, from $19,954,435 to $20,269,420.

This increase is within the state's tax-cap limit of 1.59 percent, so a simple majority vote is required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would rise 0.69 percent, from $3,027 to $3,048.

The proposed budget includes an average salary increase of 2.8 percent. The contract calls for a 0.85 percent increase plus a 1/2 step movement. The budget also proposes a reduction of six classroom teachers, one special education teacher, a psychologist, three teacher assistants, and some full-time and part-time aides.

The budget calls for the elimination of outdoor education, Spanish and keyboarding.
