Valley Stream HS evacuated in fire
A fire in a second-floor bathroom trash can led to the evacuation of Valley Stream South High School Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
A teacher doused the fire with an extinguisher, police said. No one was injured.
The incident occurred at the school on Jedwood Place at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the fire was discovered in a waste paper can and said that there was heat and water damage to the bathroom.
Classes resumed after the scene was inspected by the Valley Stream Fire Department. The cause of the fire is under investigation, police said.
