A natural gas leak outside a Friendly's Restaurant in Massapequa Park was being brought under control Monday afternoon, after a single-car accident ruptured the fuel line.

Shortly before 2 p.m. police eased traffic restrictions on Sunrise Highway, opening lanes in both directions.

The 12:09 p.m. accident forced Nassau police to evacuate nearby homes and businesses and to shut the roadway.

At midafternoon investigators were still gathering information from the scene. No additional details were immediately available about the accident, or any injuries it caused, a Nassau police spokesman said.
