W. Babylon woman charged with DWI
A woman stopped Thursday night for driving 84 mph on the Southern State Parkway in North Bellmore also was driving drunk, police said.
State Police said Sara Gafforio, 23, of West Babylon, was arrested after the traffic stop near Newbridge Road at 8:30 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations. Arraignment information was not immediately available on Friday.
Police said Gafforio was driving her black Kia Rio westbound at 84 mph in a 55-mph zone when she was stopped. The trooper "detected a strong odor of an alcohol beverage" while talking to Gafforio, who police said then failed a field sobriety test. Police said a "small amount" of Ecstasy was found in the woman's possession.
