Wantagh beach closed for health reasons

Families hoping to take a dip at Zach's Bay Beach will have to look elsewhere in Jones Beach State Park, as the inland water was closed to swimmers today, according to a statement from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The beach was closed as a precautionary step to protect swimmers' health, the statement said. Zach's Bay -- located in Wantagh -- borders Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

Oceanfront swimming areas are still open, according to the statement. There's no word yet on how long Zach's Bay Beach will be closed.
