A teenage driver was taken to a hospital after police said he crashed his Land Rover sport utility vehicle through a fence and into a creek late Thursday night in Wantagh.

The identity of the teen was not released. Nassau County police said he was the lone occupant of the SUV and he sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No criminality is suspected in the incident.

Police said the crash occurred at the intersection of Ewell Place and Old Mill Road at 10:15 p.m., the Land Rover crashing through a fence bordering the east side of Old Mill, then careening down an embankment into Bellmore Creek in the Twin Lakes Preserve. The preserve is adjacent to the southbound lanes of the Wantagh State Parkway and just north of Sunrise Highway.

First Precinct officers and the Wantagh Fire Department responded to the scene. Police said the investigation is continuing.
