A man who tried to pass a car on the unpaved shoulder of the Wantagh State Parkway sideswiped the vehicle, sending it crashing into a tree, then fled, State Police said.

Eddy Napoleon, 20, of Seaman Avenue in Baldwin faces arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, reckless driving and other traffic violations, police said.

The incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound Wantagh near the exit for Hempstead Turnpike.

In a news release, police said Napoleon, driving a white Toyota, "attempted to illegally pass" a blue Chevrolet by "driving onto the unpaved shoulder."

He sideswiped the Chevy, causing the driver to lose control, police said. The driver sustained a knee injury and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, police said.

Napoleon fled the scene, but police found him in Bellmore, according to police.
