State Police reopened a portion of northbound Wantagh State Parkway Sunday afternoon after closing it to investigate a single-car crash that left two men injured Saturday evening.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of the parkway, police said.

Police said the driver of a 2007 Honda Accord lost control of the vehicle and struck a guide rail. Both the driver and the passenger were ejected, police said. The driver, Anthony Chiantella, 27, of Bayville, and the passenger Nicholas Mustakas, 24, of Port Jefferson Station, were transported to Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said Chiantella was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.

The highway was closed at exit W6 Saturday evening, was reopened Sunday morning but was closed again at 1:30 p.m. while police investigate, take measurements and photos, a State Police spokesman said. All lanes were reopened about an hour later, police said in a news release.

An attorney for Chiantella could not be immediately reached.
