Wantagh State Parkway reopens after serious crash, police say

A serious crash that left at least one person injured shut down part of the Wantagh State Parkway by the New Cassel-Hicksville border for about four hours Friday night, State Police said.

At about 7:45 p.m., a gray 2003 Chevy Astro van and a blue 2007 Toyota Matrix were involved in a collision near Exit W2 at Old Country Road that caused one of the vehicles to overturn multiple times, police said. The driver of that vehicle was seriously injured.

Police closed the southbound lanes while they investigated, reopening the road just before midnight.

Further details were not immediately available. Police are asking witnesses to call Troop L Headquarters in Farmingdale at 631-756-3300.
