THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $75,711,069 budget for 2015-16, a 0.32 percent increase from the current $75,481,754. The local tax levy would decrease 0.01 percent, from $56,895,906 to $56,888,803. A simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family house would increase 0.11 percent, from $8,538 to $8,547.

The proposed budget cuts the equivalent of three teaching positions because of declining enrollment. It adds the equivalent of two teaching positions, two clerical support staff, a custodian position and a part-time bus driver. Teacher salary increases are estimated, subject to negotiations.

A ballot proposition asks voters to authorize spending up to $2.84 million from a district capital reserve fund for improvement projects. It would not affect the tax levy or tax cap.
