Around 1,000 homes and businesses in Nassau experienced low water pressure for a few hours Saturday afternoon after a water main broke in Baldwin, according to a water company spokesperson.

The water main broke around 2 p.m., affecting Liberty Utilities customers in Baldwin, Oceanside and South Hempstead, spokesperson Pamela Bellings said in an email to Newsday. The customers affected initially did not lose water, Bellings said, and the company’s crews were "dispatched immediately and were able to isolate the leak."

By 4:30 p.m., the company had restored water pressure to all but six customers on Parkview Place in Baldwin, who are being provided bottled water while repairs continue, Bellings said.

"We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding and want them to know that we prioritize delivering safe, reliable water service," Bellings said. "Water main breaks are a common occurrence during the cold months and we regularly assess ways in which we can replace older mains, such as the main replacement job we did in Baldwin last year."
