A water main break closed Meadowbrook Road at Babylon Turnpike in Merrick on Tuesday and cut off water to six nearby homes, police and water company officials said.

The road was closed at 12:45 p.m., Nassau County police said.

The Aqua Water Supply Co., which was fixing the break, said the road will remain closed at least until early Wednesday morning.

The head of operations for the Aqua Water Supply Co., Matthew Snyder, said it would take several hours to repair the break in the 12-inch main.
