Students at the Seaford Harbor School got a day off Monday, thanks to a water-main break found early in the morning, a spokeswoman for the Seaford Union Free School District said.

A supply-line break in a parking lot where the line enters the building was discovered when employees reported for work, some time before 9 a.m., school spokeswoman Felicia Febrizio said.

Water was gushing from the building at 3500 Bayview St., but no injuries and no real property damage occurred, she said.

"They caught it pretty early and got it under control," Febrizio said.

Parents were notified by the district's automated messaging system that the elementary school would be closed, Febrizio said.

Plumbers have been working on the break since the morning, she said, and it is expected to be repaired so students can return to school Tuesday morning, as scheduled.
