Meadowbrook Road at Babylon Turnpike in Merrick has been reopened to traffic, and water service has been restored to six area homes after a water main break Tuesday, officials said.

The break in the 12-inch main occurred about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, and water service was restored at 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to Matthew Snyder, head of operations for Aqua Water Supply Co.

"We encountered a lot of cables and things like that during the repair work, and it took us a bit long

er than we expected," Snyder said.

Meadowbrook Road was closed after the break, but was reopened overnight, a Nassau County police spokeswoman said.
