For Adam Cohen, balancing a multitude of activities for his school, temple and community has become second nature.

The Wantagh high school senior tutors youngsters in social studies, serves as a volunteer teacher's aide at his temple's religious school, and teaches swimming for Saf-T-Swim, which he considers his most satisfying activity.

"I like to see children's confidence grow as they learn to swim," said Cohen, 17.

Cohen and his family recently were honored by Temple B'nai Torah of Wantagh and the UJA Federation of New York for their contribution toward the continued growth of the temple and the community.

He also participates in the Miller High School Honors Program at Hebrew Union College in Manhattan, and took part in 2012 Project Understanding, an interfaith youth trip to Israel.

In addition, Cohen is class treasurer at his high school, and is president of the school's Animal Rights and Recycling Club and an audio/video producer.

"It's tough to balance everything," he said of his many activities, "but I wouldn't change it at all."
