A Port Washington high school senior is building an audience with her passion for writing.

Chloe Margulis, 17, of Paul D. Schreiber High School, has published four books in recent years and is working on the final installment of her "Sword of Hadrian" trilogy. She writes under the name Chloelia Salome, with her books distributed through the independent self-publishing company Lulu.

Margulis, who describes herself as a "voracious reader," was introduced to the community at a meet-the-author event at Port Washington Public Library last month that drew dozens of people.

Her first book, "The Girl in the Jimmy Choos," was about a teenager's experiences in the fashion industry. It began as a short story for a magazine; the book took her three years to complete.

"I just fell in love with being able to express myself in writing," Margulis said. "The biggest challenge is having time to sit down and write. "

Her other books include a novelette. Her trilogy is about a servant with magical powers in a kingdom where magic is banned.

Margulis is president of her school's debate team, on the student council and in five honor societies. She also plays the violin, composes music and enjoys photography.
