Nassau County police said a utility pole and power lines were damaged in an early-morning, one-car crash on the westbound Long Island Expressway service road in North Hills. An early morning auto accident that knocked down a utility pole and power lines closed the westbound Long Island Expressway service road for hours Tuesday in North Hills, Nassau County police said.

The one-car crash occurred at about 1:20 a.m., police said. Police said the road was reopened at about 8:15 a.m.

The driver, who police said was seriously injured, was taken to a hospital for treatment. Additional details were not immediately known.

The cause of the crash also was not known.

The crash closed the service road between exits 34 and 33, the New York State Department of Transportation said.
