A gas main break forced the temporary closure of a main road in Carle Place Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said.

Police said the break, reported at 9:18 a.m., closed westbound Westbury Avenue at Carle Road until 11 a.m. The site is just east of Cherry Lane.

The main was damaged by a contractor working in the area, police said. Police said emergency crews responded to the scene, but that the area was not evacuated.
