Westbury man killed on LIRR tracks ID'd
The Long Island Rail Road has identified a man who was fatally struck by a train Tuesday as he rode a bicycle across the tracks in Hicksville. He was Miguel Angel Rivera Lopez, 32, of Westbury, LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto said Wednesday.
Lopez was hit by the Port Jefferson branch train at about 1:25 p.m. at the Urban Avenue crossing just west of the Hicksville station.
The engineer on the train reported that the crossing gates were working and were in the down position when the train hit Lopez, the LIRR said.
Service on the Port Jefferson branch was briefly suspended, then was restored before the evening rush hour.
