Wheatley Heights man charged in $14k theft
A Wheatley Heights man was arrested on Friday and charged with grand larceny after officers found him with $14,000 in stolen electronics, Nassau County police said.
Police said when they arrested Jonathon Lewis, 26, at 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Long Island Rail Road station in Wantagh on an unrelated felony warrant, they found that he had with him a box full of expensive electronics.
After further investigation, police said they discovered that Lewis had broken the window of a Lexus parked on Collins Avenue in Seaford last Thursday and taken the electronics from the car.
The victim of that crime identified the electronics as his, police said.
Police said Lewis also gave officers a false name and did not have identification.
Lewis was charged with third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal mischief and false personation. At his arraignment on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, Lewis was ordered held on $7,500 bond or cash bail. He is due back in court on Wednesday.
