Sailors and kite fliers, get ready; just watch out for brush fires.

"Monday's going to be windy," said Joey Picca, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour out of the west.

The continuing dry, windy weather prompted Weather Service meteorologist Ashley Sears to issue a fire weather warning Sunday afternoon. The conditions already have contributed to a rash of small brush fires throughout the last week.

Monday's winds will be accompanied by temperatures a few degrees above normal, with highs in the low 60s.

But Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the winds should die down and there will be a chance of rain, with temperatures dipping into the high 50s, the service said.

"No particular day is going to be a washout," Picca said, but the chance of rain those days should hovering between 20 and 40 percent.

Sunny skies and higher temperatures are expected for the end of the week.

Firefighters battled several brush fires in Suffolk County last Friday and through the weekend.
