Woman, 62, attacked in Freeport

He knocked on the door and asked for her son.

But when the 62-year-old woman opened the door to her apartment on Guy Lombardo Avenue in Freeport, the unidentified assailant shoved her to the floor -- and then kicked her and punched her in the head before fleeing, police said.

Nassau County police are searching for the attacker after the incident at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the woman, whose identity was not released, suffered "multiple contusions and lacerations" to her head and face and was taken by police ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Her condition was not immediately known Thursday. Police did not detail a motive for the attack.
