Woman, 73, robbed at gunpoint in West Hempstead home, cops say
Nassau police are searching for three men who robbed a West Hempstead woman at gunpoint after she let someone who she thought was a repairman into her home on Friday afternoon.
Fifth Squad detectives said the 73-year-old woman was waiting for repair personnel to arrive at her Wildwood Road home about 2:45 p.m. when a man who she thought was the worker arrived and rang her doorbell. She let him in through the garage and, after he asked to use a bathroom, another man appeared in the garage displaying a handgun and saying he wanted her money.
Shortly after, police said, the woman observed another man, who was masked, leaving her home with the first suspect carrying a garment bag that she later learned contained jewelry and money taken from the home.
The three men left in a blue older-model Chevrolet toward the Southern State Parkway, police said.
Police described the first man as in his 30s and tall, wearing a gray jacket and light bluejeans. The second suspect was described as in his mid-20s, tall and wearing a black leather jacket, black hair and carrying a black semi-automatic firearm. The third suspect had blonde hair and was wearing a mask.
Detectives ask anyone with information about this robbery to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
