Two robbers ripped a pocketbook off the arm of a 79-year-old woman walking on a street in Elmont Tuesday evening, knocking her to the ground and causing her to hit her head on a sign, police said.

There was only $10 in her purse, police said.

Nassau County police said the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of lacerations to her arm and further evaluation.

The robbery occurred on 238th Street at 7 p.m. Police said the two robbers were in their mid- to late teens. The purse also contained keys and personal papers, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
