A 65-year-old woman putting groceries in her car had to beat back and chase a purse thief, eventually getting her handbag back and helping police track down the suspect, Nassau police said Monday.

The victim was parked by the Waldbaum's on Hicksville Road in Massapequa when another woman grabbed her purse about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The robber started to run off, but the victim chased her and after a brief struggle in the parking lot, she got her purse back, police said.

The suspect then left in a gray Hyundai Sonata and after the victim gave police a partial license plate number, detectives arrested Meghan Solomons, 27, Sunday afternoon at her 593 Bardini Dr. home in Melville, authorities said.

The victim suffered minor injuries but declined medical assistance, police said.

Solomons was arraigned on third-degree robbery Monday and held pending a $10,000 bond. The name of her attorney was not immediately available Monday.
