A Valley Stream woman was charged with assault for kicking an officer in the groin and being "verbally and physically abusive" to staff at Franklin Hospital Medical Center, Nassau police said Friday.

Officers were on assignment Thursday night at the Valley Stream hospital when they saw Yolanda Battino, 44, confronting personnel just before 11 p.m., police said. The officers tried to help but Battino refused to obey their commands, police said.

She kicked a female officer in the groin and scratched her arms, police said. The officer was treated and released, police said.

Battino was arraigned Friday on second-degree assault at First District Court in Hempstead. She was held in jail on $10,000 cash bail or bond.
