Woman charged with impersonating cop

Seemona Sumasar, 35, of 1367 Dickens St., Far Rockaway, is charged with robbery, criminal impersonation, and unlawfully wearing body armor vest. Police said she was one of three people who posed as police officers, stopped motorists in Inwood and robbed them at gunpoint. (May 25, 2010) Credit: NCPD
With an authentic-looking red police flashing light on the dashboard, a female cop impersonator from Far Rockaway gave two separate motorists a fright when she pulled them over under the guise of the law, Nassau police said.
She conducted traffic stops. She searched "suspects." She confiscated "contraband."
Each time, she left when an accomplice claimed the team had to take another "call," police said Wednesday.
Now the real police have arrested the woman, identified as Seemona Sumasar, 35, of 1367 Dickens St., but her two male accomplices are still at large, said Nassau Police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith, a police spokesman.
She's charged with robbery, criminal impersonation, criminal use of a firearm and unlawful wearing of body armor.
Police say Sumasar pulled over two people in Inwood in separate encounters, one on March 2 and the other on May 19.
In both cases, the defendant wore a police-type shield, stole the victims' property and took off.
She was arrested, Smith said, after the vehicle she and her accomplices used was traced back to her and the victims then identified her.
