A woman found shot earlier in the week on a footbridge in a deserted Freeport park has died, Nassau County police said Friday.
Detectives were never able to interview the victim, 43-year-old Kelly McGuire of Freeport, who was hospitalized after a 911-shots-fired call Monday. She was found at 2:50 a.m., about 10 minutes after the first call. She was semiconscious with a single gunshot wound and lying on the bridge, which divides Baldwin and Freeport, police said.
“The motivation is absolutely unknown,” said Det. Sgt. Gregg Lesmeister, a Homicide Squad supervisor on the case. Detectives have no suspects and are trying to piece together her whereabouts in the time before she was shot.
McGuire was shot on the bridge in Milburn Creek Park. She was treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow but died Friday at 1 p.m.
Ballistics tests are pending. No weapon was recovered. There were no signs of robbery or sexual assault, and she was fully clothed, police said.
She leaves behind a sister, a 20-year-old son and an ex-husband, police said.
