A woman walking across Newbridge Road in North Bellmore was struck by a vehicle Friday morning, State Police said.

Trooper Frank Bandiero said Donna Polimeni, 58, of Bellmore, was in a crosswalk at 8:52 a.m. when she was hit by a Ford Edge exiting the westbound Southern State Parkway and merging onto southbound Newbridge Road.

She was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where she was treated for a head injury.

Bandiero said he did not have more information on Polimeni’s injuries but that they appear to be non-life-threatening.

“The victim was conscious at the scene,” Bandiero said.

The driver, Margaret Greco, 49, of Massapequa Park, stayed at the scene and no charges are pending, Bandiero said.

Bandiero said sun glare in the front windshield could have contributed to the situation, but investigators were not immediately sure.

The exit ramp, closed after the collision, remained shut until about 12:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation website.

Anyone with more information on the crash is asked to call Troop L at 631-756-3300.
