A woman has been taken to Nassau University Medical Center on Thursday morning in East Meadow after being extricated from an overturned car in a supermarket parking lot in Levittown, Nassau police and fire officials said.
The condition of the woman was not immediately known.
The accident occurred in the parking lot of the King Kullen shopping center on Hempstead Turnpike at about 6:30 a.m., Nassau County police said. Officials said initial indications are the woman may have accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake and that her car, a Nissan Altima, then jumped a curb, struck signage or a barrier, and overturned.
Firefighters from the Levittown Fire Department and police Emergency Service Unit officers needed to extricate the woman from the vehicle.
She was taken to the hospital by Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance.
