Woman killed trying to cross New Hyde Park street

A 60-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed Monday afternoon as she crossed Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park, police said.

Sai Yo Chen of New Hyde Park ws pronounced dead at a hospital about a half-hour after she was struck by a westbound 2004 Toyota van near 11th Street at 5:09 p.m., Nassau County police said.

Police said Chen suffered "severe chest trauma and internal bleeding," and despite the efforts of first responders from New Hyde Park fire department ambulance, Chen was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.

No charges were filed in connection with the accident.
