A 46-year-old woman who told police she was hit in the face with a bottle and robbed in East Meadow recanted her story Thursday, police said.

The woman, who had not been identified by Nassau County police, reported she had been assaulted and robbed as she got out of her car in the parking lot of Pathmark on Front Street on Wednesday at 11:40 p.m.

She told police cash and personal papers were taken.

She also reported that after the assault, she drove herself to a hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police would only say Thursday that the case remains under investigation. They did not say if the woman had been assaulted or if any suspects were being considered.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the crime call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
