Woman with flu-like symptoms triggers Ebola scare in Franklin Square, cops say
County, state and other medical personnel investigated a possible Ebola case after a patient, who had recently traveled to Africa, complained of flu-like symptoms Friday, Nassau County police said.
Physicians examined the 29-year-old woman after a 911 call was placed from the Franklin Square Immediate Care Center, 30 Franklin Ave., about 5:45 p.m. for an ambulance to take her for medical care, police said.
Medical personnel learned then that she had visited Africa and began to treat her as a possible Ebola case.
Police said, however, that the woman hadn't traveled to areas where there were Ebola cases.
After medical personnel determined she did not have Ebola, she was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of flu-like symptoms, police said.
Police said they followed department rules on dealing with this type of emergency.
